Pterinochilus murinus DCF “Kenya” (5-6cm)
The Kenyan Baboon is a really interesting form of Pterinochilus murinus, originating from Kenya, with darker colouring than the more familiar orange forms.
They’re also absolutely brilliant webbers, often turning their entire enclosure into a maze of silk once they settle in They can reach around 16cm as adults and have a fast growth rate. They’re a terrestrial/semi-fossorial species, so give them a decent depth of substrate, a hide and plenty of things to anchor their webbing to.
Aim for around 22–28°C with humidity around 60–70%, keeping the setup well ventilated and allowing the substrate to remain mostly on the drier side, with access to a water dish. A fantastic species for anyone who enjoys watching a spider really make use of its enclosure — and once that webbing gets going, there’s usually very little of the enclosure left untouched!
